Reshaping Greater Peoria's Economic Development Activities
When an outside consultant released his findings regarding regional economic development efforts, a group of community leaders determined it was necessary for the economic development activities of the region undergo change. The Heartland Partnership family of companies is very much in support of enhancing regional efforts, especially instituting a more cohesive and collaborative regional strategic planning effort.
Two of the five recommendations for change put forth by ViTal Economy were to simplify the governance structure of The Heartland Partnership family of companies and reorganize the current EDC governance and staff. Our boards of directors have reviewed the recommendations and have submitted a response to the Regional Steering Committee overseeing the realignment of the regional economic development efforts.
ViTal Economy was hired by Tri County Regional Planning Commission (a governmental entity made up of representatives from Peoria, Woodford and Tazewell County boards). TCRPC is not a governing body or an affiliate of The Heartland Partnership, even so, The Heartland Partnership has tried to remain engaged in the process and remains willing to work with all parties involved to do what is best for this region. We have also asked to have a more involved role in the review of data and the development of next steps but, at this point, we haven’t been allowed to be as involved as we hoped.
The Heartland Partnership family of companies has been a successful change agent for the region for many years and we strive to continually improve economic development efforts as part of our core mission. We continue to make every effort to support and be involved in progressive regional economic development efforts.
